Gertrude Leighton papers

Overview Gertrude Leighton was born in Belfast, Ireland. Leighton first came to Bryn Mawr College as a member of the class of 1938 and majored in classical archaeology. In 1940, she was hired by Barnard College as a lecturer in the English Department. She entered law school at Yale in 1942, graduated in 1945. Besides serving as the twenty-eighth president of the United States from 1913-1921 Woodrow Wilson was a member of the original faculty of Bryn Mawr College from 1885-1888.
