Emmy Noether materials

Overview Born in Germany, Emmy Noether was a distinguished mathematician who immigrated to the United States as a refugee Jewish scholar in the 1930s where she took a teaching position at Bryn Mawr College. During the 1934-1935 academic year Noether taught one graduate level course in Algebra in the department of mathematics. Noether died suddenly in 1935 at the Bryn Mawr Hospital. The collection consists mainly of material written about Noether and memorializing Noether.

Overview Marion Edwards Park (1975-1960) graduated Bryn Mawr College in 1898. After continuing her studies at the University of Chicago, American School of Classical Studies in Athens, Colorado College, and Johns Hopkins University, she earned her PhD in classics from Bryn Mawr College in 1918. As president of Bryn Mawr College (1922-1942), she significantly increased enrollment, broadened the curriculum, and expanded cooperation with Haverford, Swarthmore, and the University of Pennsylvania. Overview Constance Grenelle Wilcox, Bryn Mawr Class of 1917, was a successful playwright and novelist. Some of Wilcox's written works include: Pan Pipes (1919), The Princess in the Fairy Tale (1919) and Told in a Chinese Garden (1932). The Constance Grenelle Wilcox papers include her unpublished manuscript, The Unsophisticate. The papers also include a series of other unpublished plays and children's stories. There is also correspondence in the collection.

Overview The papers of Esther Rhoads (1896-1979), a member of an influential Philadelphia Quaker family, Rhoads was a teacher, later head, of Friends Girls' School in Tokyo for over 50 years. Katharine Shepard papers

Overview Katharine Shepard (1905-1986) attended Bryn Mawr College in the late 1920s and early 1930's, and received degrees in Latin, Classical Archaeology, and Greek. She went on to a career in archaeology, and was employed by the National Gallery of Art. The Katharine Shepard Papers contains letters to and from her family and friends, primarily from her many trips abroad, as well as a few family momentos.
