James Tyson diaries

Overview

The collection consists of four volumes of diaries which detail James Tyson's time at Haverford College, from daily activities to information on the courses Tyson was taking at the time. The entries range from 1859 to 1861.

Franklin Whitall essays

Overview

The essays are primarily assignments for an English 12 class at Harvard University. There is coursework from both Fall 1893 and Spring 1894. Additionally, there are some personal reflections from Spring 1894 and several undated works. Finally, there is a chart from the American Anthropometric Association that plots out Whitall's weight, height, girth, depth, breadth, and strength on October 24, 1889 and May 8, 1890.

Thomas Wildes commonplace book

The Thomas Wildes commonplace book contains a variety of texts written, or copied, by Thomas Wildes. It is over 140 pages long and it was created in 1856, after Wildes had entered Haverford College.

John Randolph Winslow commonplace book

Overview

The commonplace book was created while Winslow was attending Haverford College. Winslow entered the college in 1838 in the Junior class, and transcribed many songs during his time there. Handwritten notes and excerpts can be found in the songbook as well. The book ends in 1840, presumably when Winslow graduated. He later went on to become a professor, physician, and surgeon in Baltimore, Maryland.

Edward Morris Wistar songbooks

Overview

These two volumes contain handwritten song lyrics compiled by Edward M. Wistar and his classmates during his time at Haverford in the early 1870s. Some are specific to Haverford, while many were other popular songs of the time.

Women's Center records

Overview

This collection contains records created by the Women's Center at Haverford College. The materials begin in the 1970s during the creation of the center and extend through to 2019. Included in this collection are materials about the history of the Women's Center and coeducation at Haverford, log books kept by the staff members, posters about their events, publications they created such as Herstory and newsletters, information sheets about sex and other topics, and some photographs.

Charles Wood commonplace book

Overview

A collection of poems compiled by Charles Wood during his time at Haverford College. These poems were transcribed by Wood and other classmates from 1866 to 1870, and detail religious, spiritual, and patriotic poems at the time. After his time at Haverford, Wood went on to recieve his Doctorate of Divinity in 1885, but records in the commonplace book stop after 1870.

Abstract James Wood (1839-1925) was “interested in education, philanthropy, in the various branches of agriculture, in archaeology, history, Indian lore, anthropology, science, in prison reform and above all, in the Bible and religion,” (ABS, 2).
