Emily Cooper Johnson was a Quaker author and reformer, born 1885 and died 1966 The collection contains correspondence, articles, reviews, and other papers, relating to Johnson's books, Dean Bond of Swarthmore: A Quaker Humanist (1927), and Under Quaker Appointment: The Life of Jane P. Rushmore (1955); together with business and financial papers, family marriage certificates, reference materials, clippings, and photos.

Kaltenbach Family Correspondence

Overview

The collection consists primarily of letters written by John E. Kaltenbach to his parents, Edward C. and Ethel Kaltenbach, from Wesleyan University, Yale Divinity School, and while working as the acting director for the Scattergood Hostel for European Refugees in Iowa. Also a small number of letters from his sister, Linda Kaltenbach, while a student at Swarthmore College.

Kent-Barnard Family Papers

Overview Daniel Kent, emigrated to Chester County, Pa. from Ireland, in 1785. He joined the Society of Friends (Quakers) in 1790, and married Esther Hawley in 1791. Their great-grandson Henry Simmons Kent (1833-1906) was active in the establishment of Swarthmore Monthly Meeting and the Borough of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Joanna Wharton Lippincott (1858-1938) was the eldest daughter of Joseph Wharton, prominent Philadelphia Quaker businessman and philanthropist. She was a lifelong Quaker and served on the Board of Managers of Swarthmore College.
