The American businessman John T. Diebold, founder of the Diebold Group, Inc. and author of the management classic Automation, was a graduate of Swarthmore College (class of 1949). This collection consists of 89 scrapbooks carefully constructed by Diebold to document his life and the major events of his business career and personal life.

Joseph Fell (1804-1887), the son of Dr. David and Phebe Schofield Fell, was a Pennsylvania Quaker teacher and farmer. In 1835 he married Harriet Williams, the daughter of Samuel and Sarah Watson Williams of Buckingham, Pa. Joseph and Harriet Fell had five children: William W. (1836-1874), Emily Catherine who married William Seal in 1863; David Newlin (1840-1919) who married Martha Trego; Edward Watson (1843-1901) who married Elizabeth Matlack Kenderdine in 1867; and Lucy W. Fell, born 1847....

David Fraser was the 12th President of Swarthmore College (1982-1991). Trained as a physician with an emphasis on epidemiology, David W. Fraser (b. 1944) is also known as an advocate of liberal arts education, a scholar of public health, and an artist in traditional methods of textile construction. He joined Swarthmore College in 1982 after working at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and resigned from Swarthmore in 1991 to to head the Social Welfare Department at the Aga Khan Secretariat....

Theodore Friend was President of Swarthmore College from 1973 to 1982. He is a teacher, historian, and novelist. His books include Indonesian Destinies (Harvard University Press, 2003) and Between Two Empires: The Ordeal of the Philippines (Yale University Press, 1965). He is President Emeritus of the Eisenhower Fellowship and a senior fellow of the Foreign Policy Research Institute.
