Brown family history

Scope and Content note

This collection is comprised of the small, single, handwritten volume of the Brown family history. The volume traces the Brown family back to Thomas and Eleanor Brown of West Nottingham, and traces the descendants of this couple through the eighteenth century. The inside of the back cover is inscribed with the name M. Mendenhall, and dated 8th mo 1833.

Henry Joel Cadbury (1883-1974) was one of the foremost American Quaker scholars of the 20th century. He published in the fields of Quaker and biblical history, and served as a teacher and philanthropist. This addition to the papers of Henry Cadbury includes biographical materials, correspondence, diaries, writings, such as his The Book of Acts in History and photographs of Cadbury and his family.

Scope and Contents

Typescript in binder. Ann (Brown) Willets was the grandmother of the compiler, Charles R. Willits. She descended from a long line of Quakers as was her husband, Henry Willits of Maiden Creek, Berks County, Pa. Charles Willits also made a typescript of the Willets genealogy compiled by Thomas Montgomery Lightfoot. Both were copied, bound, and cataloged in 2000.
