Abstract This collection consists of copies of papers relating to Buckingham Monthly Meeting, handed down through the Watson family. Included are accounts of the meeting by John Watson (1740-1817) and by Samuel Preston written to John Watson (1774-1864). Also included are memorials of prominent members of Buckingham Monthly Meeting, the most extensive of which refer to Jacob Holcombe, John Scarbrough, Oliver Paxson, and Phebe Ely.
Abstract Richard Price's letters to fellow Hicksite Quaker John Watson provide a rich account of the Hicksite-Orthodox Separation with references and comments on many of the personalities involved: Elias Hicks, William Wharton, Jonathan Evans, as well as visiting Quaker ministers including George Truman, Lucretia Mott, Ann Jones, Mary and Susan Cox, and Martha Smith.
