This collection is composed of the single volume commonplace book of Abraham Pennell and includes extracts from Elias Hicks letters and sermons, extracts of early Friends writings, bible verses, and testimonies from various Quaker individuals, including: John Grafton, Samuel Fuller, Benjamin Holme, and sermons from various Meetings for worship.

Biographical note

Abraham Pennell (1753-1840) was born in Middletown, Pa. on April 9, 1753, the son of William Pennell and Mary Dell. He married Hannah Sharpless and the couple had three children: Mary (1777-1852), William (1783-1796), and Hannah Pennell (1788-1864). Pennell died on September 25, 1840 in Middletown.

Acquisition

The Abraham Pennell commonplace book was donated to Special Collections, Haverford College by the Friends Library, Philadelphia.
