Scope and Content note

This collection is comprised of two volumes of the estate account books of William Penrose. The volumes generally record deposits, withdrawals for payments for goods and services, and account balances for the estate of William Penrose.

Biographical note

William Penrose (1768-1816) was born in Philadelphia in 1768, the son of Thomas Penrose and Ann Dowding. Penrose was as a member of the Pennsylvania Assembly. He married Annah (or Hannah), daughter of Ebenezer Norwood by his wife Abigail Emmes, in Boston, Massachusetts in December of 1795. William Penrose died in Philadelphia in December, 1816.

The William Penrose financial records were donated to Quaker & Special Collections, Haverford College, in 1954 by Richard Cadbury.
