Scope and Content note

This collection is comprised of the single volume commonplace book of Seiju Hirakawa. It inlcudes extracts of poetry and religious reflection on the occasion of the Hirakawa’s 50th wedding anniversary, or the “Golden Wedding Number.” The excerpts and quotations are arranged by topics, and cover topics such as friendship, teachers and pupils, self-expression, books, Pride. The volume also includes a personal reflection of his marriage, presumably written by Hirakawa.

Biographical note

Seiju Hirakawa (1874-?) was born in 1874, and served as the secretary of the Japan Yearly Meeting of the AFSC beginning in 1927. He was also an educator, working as a teacher in Japanese government schools, and eventually working as the principal of the Friends' Girls' School
