Biographical Note

Roland Herbert Bainton (1894-1984) was born in Derbyshire, England, in 1894, and came to the United States in 1902. He received his bachelor's from Whitman College, and his Ph.D. from Yale University. He was a Protestant church historian, and taught for 42 years as a professor of ecclesiastical history at Yale. While Bainton himself was not a Quaker, his mother was. Bainton published many works on the reformation and ecclesiastical history. He died on February 13, 1984.
