Biographical note
Isaac Collins (1746-1817) was a printer, publisher, and bookseller and merchant. He was born in Centerville, Delaware on February 16, 1746, the son of Charles Collins and Sarah Hammond. He was educated in Quaker schools. After the death of his parents, he was indentured to the printer James Adams in 1761. After his indenture was over, he moved to Philadelphia and was accepted as a member of the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting in 1770. He published the New Jersey Gazette and the New Jersey Almanac. Collins married Rachel Budd in 1771, and the couple had fourteen children. In 1796, the family moved to New York City. After the death of his first wife in 1805, Collins married Deborah Smith in 1809. Collins died in Burlington, N.J. in March, 1817.
