Historical note

The Brotherhood Cooperative was founded in 1940 by several staff members of the American Friends Service Committee, who were also friends, with low-incomes, and no place to live. They found a house in North Philadelphia to rent, which they cleaned up, added more housemates, and eventually purchased the house. The Cooperative dissolved in 1964.
