This collection is composed of the single handwritten travel journal of Samuel Newitt. Entries detail Newitt's journey to Rhode Island, including descriptions of visits with Friends, and attendance at Meetings in various towns in Rhode Island.

Samuel Newitt Jr. (1764-1847) was born April 27, 1764 in Northhamptonshire, England, the son of Samuel and Mary Newitt. He immigrated to Newport County, Rhode Island at an unknown date, where he established a farm near Tiverton. On February 21, 1805, Newitt married Esther Mosher in Westport Massachusetts. On February 12, 1847, Newitt died and was buried on his farm.
