This collection is composed of the single handwritten diary of Henry Russell. Entries describe social calls, attendance at Quaker Meetings, personal and religious reflection, prayers, and reminiscences about his wife.

Henry Russell (1814-1899) was born on July 31st, 1814 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of Henry Russell and Content Wing Russell. He married Mary Mitchell in 1842, and the couple had two daughters: Mary Starbuck Russell (1844-1905) and Sarah Howland Russell (1847-1848). Russell died in Sandwhich, Massachusetts on April 6th, 1899 at the age of 84.
