Scope and Content note

This collection is comprised of the single volume commonplace book of Sarah Conard. The volume includes extracts and reflections concerning religion, friendship, virtue, and hope. It also includes a memorandum for Charles William and extracts from "Complaint of an African Woman."

Biographical note

Sarah Childs Conard (1782-1852) was born in 1782, in Abington, Pa., the daughter of Henry T. Child and Sarah Ann Child. She married John Conard in 1804, and the couple had eight children: James (b. 1806), Peter (b. 1810), Joseph (b. 1812), Tacy (b. 1815), John (b. 1817), Albert (b. 1820), Charles (b. 1822), and Levi (b. 1830). Sarah Conard died November 11, 1852.
