Esther Williams (Apthorp) scrapbook

 Collection — Volume: 1
Identifier: BMC-9LS-14

Scope and Contents

The Esther Williams (Apthorp) scrapbook contains the one volume scrapbook of Esther Williams, Bryn Mawr class of 1907. The scrapbook, which spans the years during which Williams was a student was at Bryn Mawr, from 1903-1907, consists mostly of personal memorabilia.

The scrapbook comprises one volume. It contains an assortment of personal memorabilia, play programs, copies of college songs, and exams. The first section of the scrapbook is labeled well and gives a good impression of the kind of events and parties to which a freshman student in 1903 was invited. There is also some material about the early Athletic Association and sporting events. Items of note include: a program from the Bryn Mawr Law Club’s debate with a fraternity of the NYC Law School; a handwritten tongue-in-cheek article entitled “Advice to Junior from Freshman”; five casual pictures of Bryn Mawr students; the constitution of the Athletic Association; and a handwritten copy of the Undergraduate Association resolution re: their relationship with wardens.

This scrapbook would be of value to anyone interested in Bryn Mawr’s early history, but would be especially useful to those interested in the athletics and the Athletic Association.
