William Lewis Lamborn genealogical research papers

Overview

The collection contains genealogical correspondence and notes compiled by William L. Lamborn in preparation for a proposed book on the Lamborn family. Included are a few letters addressd to his brother George S. Lamborn who continued the project after William's early death. Their research was included in Samuel Lamborn's Genealogy of the Lamborn Family published in 1894.

Laurie-Robbins family papers

Abstract

This collection consists of the papers of the Laurie and Robbins families. Included are the copy books of Abigail and Jane Laurie, in which are their own poetry and works by various authors. Also included are fragments of the marriage certificate of Thomas Laurie and the will of Jacob Laurie. Various unsigned letters addressed to Hannah L. Robbins and an undated arithmetic worksheet are included as well.

Henry Tyson Lea correspondence received

Abstract

The collection contains correspondence received by Henry Tyson Lea of Methuen and Lawrence, Mass., from his Kummer cousins, Edith, Mary C., and Lucy Kummer, who lived in West Medford, Mass. Most of the letters are from Lucy whose letters describe her early years as a teacher and the places she visits, including a walking trip with the Appalachian Club to Walden in a November 1887. A letter dated 1913 is directed to Henry's widow.

Lewis-Garrigues collection of family papers

Abstract This collection centers on the correspodence and family history of the Garrigues family and the Price family, to whom the former were linked with the marriage of Edward Garrigues and Margaret Price. The correspondence, received by Edward Garrigues, is from many prominent Quaker ministers, including Isaac Hicks as he travelled with his cousin, Elias Hicks. Other correspondents include Rebecca Jones, Sarah Scattergood, Stephen Grellet, Charity Cook, Deborah Darby, and Martha Routh. The letters...

Lewis-Pratt Family Papers

Abstract

Collection of manuscripts of the Lewis and Pratt families of Delaware County in Pennsylvania. Includes bible pages with births, marriages, and deaths, as well as Quaker documents. Of particular interest is a letter from Thomas H. Speakman to his sister, M.M. Jenkinson on an inheritance which also includes a reference to Rowland Johnson, Lucretia Mott, Clement Biddle, and James Martin at the Cherry Street meeting house.

Lippincott-Dillwyn papers

Abstract

This collection includes a daily journal and spiritual essays by William Lippincott and extracts on theological themes by George Dillwyn. Also included is the copy book of Edward Randolph, dated 1822, and a bound manuscript entitled The Experiences of Margret Bispham, of Mount Holly, 1769. This manuscript reflects the influence of Quakerism and spirituality on the choices of an 18th century Quaker woman.

John Lockwood correspondence

Abstract

This collection includes the letters of John Lockwood, received primarily from Aaron Leggett in 1827-28. Leggett, a Hicksite, relates business, news, and personal opinions concerning the Hicksite controversy in New York Yearly Meeting. His letters contain heated attacks on Orthodox Quakers, including Samuel Parsons, the Clerk of New York Monthly Meeting, Richard Mott, and Anna Braithwaite. He also gives news of Elias Hicks and of the progress of the Indiana Epistle.

Longshore-Williams family correspondence

Abstract This collection includes letters written to Mary W. Longshore from the family of her sister, Martha Williams, after the Williams moved from Pennsylvania to Warsaw, Ohio.
