Fair Hill Boarding School records

Abstract This collection includes manuscripts relating to the establishment of Fair Hill Boarding School by the Baltimore Yearly Meeting. Included are documents concerning the purchase of land, distribution of the Fair Hill Fund, and lists of rules for Westtown and Nine Partners Boarding Schools. These materials reflect Quaker views of education and their objectives in the establishment of Quaker schools. Hettie G. Fenimore family correspondence

Abstract

This collection consists primarily of letters written to Hettie Fenimore by her family, including her brother Jason, his wife Mary, their children, and Eliza Fell. The correspondence relates personal and local news. Also included are letters written by Hettie's mother, Amy, and a copy of a commencement speech given at Central High School, Philadelphia, in 1858 by her nephew, Frank. Frank's letters contain several of his poems and amusing anecdotes about Philadelphia in the 1850's.

Benjamin Ferris family papers

Abstract

This collection includes letters between Benjamin Ferris and his wife Hannah, his daughters Deborah and Anna M., and his son David. The letters primarily concern farming and local news. One letter by Benjamin Ferris to his daughter describes in detail his encounter with the dancer Fanny Essler. Also included in the collection are several invitations to Deborah Ferris.

Maria Fox family correspondence

Abstract

This collection primarily includes letters written by Maria Fox to her parents in Philadelphia while she was a student at Wilmington Boarding School. Also included are two letters from Maria's sister, Sarah Ann. The correspondence gives an account of the daily experiences of a student at Wilmington Boarding School. One letter briefly mentions a talk given at the school by the Quaker minister, Emmor Kimber.

Marie Ogden Francke "My Little Talks with You" collection

The collection contains a signed typescript of short religious messages addressed to "Our separate but united meeting." These apparently were part of an informal group which worshipped together and prepared inspirational "messages" for distribution among the group and for institutions.
