Collections of still photographic types, including paper prints, cased photographs, glass plates, and slides. Historically, when processing a collection, FHL staff have often removed the photographs from the manuscript portion (e.g. RG4 organizational records or RG5 family or personal papers) and stored them as an associated PA photographs collection. FHL staff have also assembled alphabetical files by topic, such as the Meetinghouse Picture File.

Overview Dorothy Harvey Leonard was a nurse and family historian until her death in 2007. The Harvey family descends through Jesse Harvey, the son of Michael and Elizabeth, who was married to Keziah Ward in Center Monthly Meeting, NC, in 1786. Emily Howland family photographs

Overview

Emily Howland (1827-1929) was a Quaker humanitarian and educator who is particularly known for her work with formerly enslaved people in Virginia during and after the American Civil War. This collection includes family photographs and photographs of Howland's abolition and women's rights colleagues.

William I. Hull glass plate negatives on Quaker history

Overview William I. Hull, a Quaker pacifist, taught history at Swarthmore College from 1892 until his death in 1939. He was the Librarian of Friends Historical Library and also authored numerous books and articles, particularly on the subjects of Quakers in Holland, William Penn, peace, and international relations. Overview

The collection contains photographs of the family of Quakers Ezekiel Hunn and Lydia Jones Sharpless Hunn and their granddaughter, Katherine Hunn Karsner, who married Joseph Reed Karsner in 1930. Compiled Katherine Hunn Karsner, it includes 19th century family albums, early twentieth century photographs, and also focuses on Katherine's daughter, Mary Ann Karsner Kegler (1932-1983) who moved to Alaska as a college student and was one of the founders of Chena Ridge Monthly Meeting.

George B. Jackson family photographs

George B. Jackson, Swarthmore College Class of 1921, was a businessman and a member of New York Monthly Meeting. His grandfather, William Morris Jackson, was a Quaker businessman, reformer, and Trustee of Swarthmore College. This collection contains portraits of various Jackson family members, alongside a few miscellaneous photographs, all black and white.

Leandre Jackson photographs of Black student life at Swarthmore College

Overview

Leandre Jackson, a professional photographer, graduated from Swarthmore College in 1975 and served as Director of Swarthmore's Black Cultural Center 1975-1977 (full time from 1975-1976 and part time from 1976-1977. This collection consist of photographs taken by Leandre Jackson and displayed in a February 2015 exhibition at the Swarthmore College Library entitled "Proof of Black Life."

Jenkins family photograph albums

Overview

Walter Hallowell Jenkins was a storekeeper in Gwynedd, served as Clerk of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and operated the Friends Book Store in Philadelphia. His wife, Esther Peterman Lukens, was the daughter of Alan R. and Mary B. (Butcher) Lukens. Of their five children, only Sarah married. The family had many connections to Swarthmore College. This collection consists of four family albums.
