Swarthmore College Outing Club records

Overview

The Swarthmore Outing Club, still active and known as "The Outsiders" as of 2015, plans excursions such as hiking, climbing, and backpacking for students. In 1961, interested students in the Outing Club registered as Swarthmore Grotto #98, a student chapter of the National Speleological Society. This collection of Swarthmore Outing Club records, circa 1961-1968, consists of files on caves explored by the club and issues of the club's biannual newsletter.

J. Roland Pennock Papers

Roland Pennock was a prominent professor of Political Science at Swarthmore College where he taught from 1932 to 1976. This collection contains memorial letters which were received by the college following his death in 1995; writings including journal articles, speeches, contributions to reference publications, and reviews of his books; and his papers concerning the College committees on which he served, including Educational Policy, Divestment, and Honors.

Overview

Photographs of Representative James H. Scheuer, Class of 1942, his family, associates, and constituents. As a Member of Congress, Scheuer met many famous people and many ordinary people and took care to document these meetings. The result is thousands of contact sheets, prints, and negatives recording everything from high level meetings with world leaders to discussions on the street with district residents. This collection complements the papers Sheuer donated at the same time.
