Mary Albertson Papers

Overview Mary Albertson was born in 1895 and earned a Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr College. She joined the Swarthmore faculty in 1927 and served as chairman of the History Department from 1942 until her retirement in 1963. She died in May 1986. The collection contains notes and bibliography on index cards for book on British royal castles in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Carl Barus Papers

Overview Carl Barus was a professor of engineering and social activist. He taught in the Engineering Department at Swarthmore College from 1952 to 1985. He was active in negotiating a resolution to the 1969 admissions office sit-in by SASS and subsequently served on the Black Concerns Committee. Contains papers on African American student concerns at Swarthmore from the SASS sit-in in 1969 to minutes and papers of the Black Concerns Committee in the 1980s.
