Scope and Contents

This collection contains a speeches and articles, mostly written by Hunt, on topics pertaining to life at Swarthmore, including but not limited to: Aydelotte’s admissions policies, community life at Swarthmore, Swarthmore’s Quaker tradition, student affairs, emotions in the student body, changes in rules and regulations, and religion and higher education. The collection includes a inventory of items.

Biographical / Historical

Everett Lee Hunt served on the faculty and administration of Swarthmore College from 1925 to 1956. He was born in Iowa on Oct. 14, 1890, and raised in South Dakota. He graduated from Huron College and earned a master’s degree from the University of Chicago. He joined the faculty of Swarthmore College in 1925, teaching public speaking. He was appointed Professor of English in 1928 and retired from teaching in 1959. He was named Dean of the College in 1932 and was a pioneer in psychological counseling for students, retiring in 1956. After retirement, he taught courses at Cornell University and elsewhere and remained active in the College and local community. Everett Hunt became a member of the Society of Friends in 1929 and was active in Swarthmore Monthly Meeting. He died April 30, 1984.
