Biographical / Historical

The No Foreign War Campaign Steering Committee was funded by peace organizations such as the National Council for Prevention of War, the Methodist Church Commission on World Peace, and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. According to Committee minutes, it was meeting as early as January 1938. Activities included letter-writing, press releases, and leafleting in support of peace candidates to Congress. The originators of NFWCSC were predominantly pacifist. They left the organization when its new chairman, Verne Marshall, used his influence to emphasize neutrality over pacifism and impregnable defense over mediation.
