Historical note

In the early 1980s five young people, Susan Rabin, Nessa Rabin, Hannah Rabin, Susan Dennison, and Becky Dennison, all of Vermont, began this grass roots organization to educate other children and international government leaders about the dangers of nuclear weapons and potential nuclear war. The group evolved into a clearing house of correspondence with children around the world. In 1982 thousands of these letters were delivered to President Ronald Reagan at the White House, in an attempt to sway his opinion on ending the Cold War with the Soviet Union. Many letters were published in a book, Childrens Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Guido Grünewald [editor] in 1985.
