Biographical / Historical
With the consent of Concord Quarterly Meeting, Eastland and Little Britain Preparative Meetings joined together to form Little Britain Monthly Meeting in 1804. The first meeting was held in 10mo 1804. Little Britain came under Baltimore Yearly Meeting in 1819 upon the creation of Nottingham Quarterly Meeting.
During the Separation of 1828, the meeting affiliated with the Hicksite branch of Friends, as a majority of members identified themselves as Hicksite. Those with Orthodox sympathies withdrew from the meeting and joined with Orthodox Friends from Eastland Preparative Meeting to form the Little Britain Preparative Meeting of Nottingham and this body afiliated with Primitive Friends after 1854.
In the 20th century, Little Britain Monthly Meeting arranged itself on the traditional English system of having two preparative meetings, Penn Hill and Eastland, and alternating business meetings between the two meetinghouses, a model that continues into the 21st century.
