Westbury Monthly Meeting Records

 Collection — othertype: SW/NY/W453
Identifier: QM-NY-W453

Scope and Contents

Records of Westbury Monthly Meeting, 1660-ongoing.

Records of the Orthodox branch (active 1828-1938) are described in a separate finding aid, following the arrangement by New York Yearly Meeting's Haviland Records Room from where the records were received in 1997.

Westbury Monthly Meeting records include a large number (150+) of manumission certificates, which were legal documents signed by Quaker enslavers emancipating (or promising future emancipation) of the people they enslaved. These records (both original certificates and the record register kept by the meeting) have been digitized, and the file also includes a number of mid-20th century transcripts and indices compiled by the meeting.
