Biographical / Historical

Illinois Yearly Meeting (Hicksite) opened in 1875. It was composed of Blue River Quarterly Meeting, set off from Indiana Yearly Meeting (Hicksite) in 1874, and Prairie Grove Quarterly Meeting, set off from Baltimore Yearly Meeting (Hicksite) the same year. It joined in founding Friends General Conference.

There was no Illinois Yearly Meeting (Orthodox). Orthodox meetings in Illinois and Iowa were part of Iowa Yearly Meeting.

A number of 20th century meetings in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, and Indiana -- many on college campuses -- were sponsored by the American Friends Fellowsip Council between the time the latter was set off from the Fellowhip Committee of the AFSC in 1933 and when it merged into the FWCC American Section in 1954. Information on Chicago, Decator, Lake Forest, Oak Park, Urbana, Iowa City, Ames, Council Bluffs, Lincoln, Bloomington, Indianapolis, and Perdue University may be found in these records (RG4/004) and in the correspondence of the FWCC (RG1/001) which have been deposited at Friends Historical Library.
