Biographical / Historical

The Yearly Meeting of Ministers and Elders and its successor bodies have had responsibility for the spiritual life of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and its members. Ministers and Elders considered queries pertaining to spiritual matters, prepared minutes for ministers travelling to other yearly meetings, heard reports from travelling ministers, and received minutes from visiting ministers of other yearly meetings. In 1919, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (Hicksite) changed the name of Ministers and Elders to Ministry and Counsel. With the reunion of the Philadelphia Yearly Meetings in 1955, a new body called (since 1975) Committee on Worship and Ministry was formed to consider spiritual matters.
