Biographical / Historical

A meeting for worship known ass "George's Creek" was established under Kennett (Newark) Monthly Meeting in 1703; in 1705 this Meeting was transferred to Duck Creek Monthly Meeting. A preparative meeting was set off there between 1714 and 1717; this preparative meeting was discontinued in 1772. The meeting for worship moved to Appoquinimink Bridge in 1782, and a preparative meeting was again established under Duck Creek in 1788. The Orthodox Preparative Meeting was laid down at the time of the Separation in 1828. The Hicksite Preparative Meeting was discontinued two years later and its members were transferred to Duck Creek Preparative Meeting. A meeting for worship in Appoquinimink was revived in 1946 and a Preparative Meeting established in 1947. It was transferred to Wilmington from Southern Quarter. This Meeting is informally called Odessa.
