Abstract This collection includes Isaac T. Hopper's original and photocopied letters and his letterbook. Much of the material concerns his bookselling business and the Hicksite separation. He relates news of figures central to the controversy, including Elisha Bates, Elias Hicks, and Anna Braithwaite. Also included is Hopper's copy of the book, The History of the Life of Thomas Elwood.

Overview Emily Howland (1827-1929) was a Quaker humanitarian and educator who is particularly known for her work with formerly-enslaved African Americans in Virginia during and after the American Civil War. A birthright Friend, Emily Howland was the only daughter of Slocum and Hannah (Tallcot) Howland of Sherwood, N.Y. Overview The collection is composed of correspondence of the family of David Sands Shearman and his wife, Hepsa Hathaway Howland Shearman of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and Poughkeepsie, New York. George Iden Daybooks

Overview George Iden (1820-1897) was a Hicksite Quaker farmer of Sherwood, Cayuga County, New York. He married Jane Elizabeth Cox/Cock (1835-1917) in 1882. George Iden was active in Scipio Monthly Meeting and served as an Elder. The collection contains thirty-four daybooks with daily notes on farm life in the second half of the nineteenth century: crops and livestock, financial accounts, weather, and some personal notes.

Overview Halliday Jackson (1771-1835) was a Quaker minister from New Garden and Darby, Pa.. From 1798 to 1800 he joined the Quaker mission to the Seneca Indians organized by the Indian Committee of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. John Lockwood correspondence

Abstract This collection includes the letters of John Lockwood, received primarily from Aaron Leggett in 1827-28. Leggett, a Hicksite, relates business, news, and personal opinions concerning the Hicksite controversy in New York Yearly Meeting. His letters contain heated attacks on Orthodox Quakers, including Samuel Parsons, the Clerk of New York Monthly Meeting, Richard Mott, and Anna Braithwaite. He also gives news of Elias Hicks and of the progress of the Indiana Epistle.
