Abstract This collection includes letters received by Anne E. Sheppard from members of her family, including her mother, Margaret G. Sheppard, and her cousins John W. Biddle, Martha H. Garrett, Rebecca C. Sheppard, and Mary M. Sheppard. Of these the most extensive are those of Martha H. Garrett, describing the daily life, education, and concerns of a young Quaker woman in Philadelphia in the 1860's. Stout-Alston Family Papers

Overview The Stout and Alston families were Quaker merchant families of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware and Maryland. This collection of paper contains the personal and business correspondence, business and legal papers of Quaker merchants in Delaware, Philadelphia, and Maryland. The papers are chiefly of Jacob Stout (1774-1855), of Smyrna, Kent County, Delaware, who served as Governor of Delaware and Judge of Court of Appeals, and Jonathan Alston of Leipsic, Delaware.

The Northern Association of the City and County of Philadelphia for the Relief and Employment of Poor Women records

Overview This Hicksite Quaker women's charity was organized in 1844 and incorporated in 1856. Its mission was to provide employment in sewing for poor women. Lucretia Mott served as president until 1866. The Association went out of existence in 1926. The collection contains legal documents, financial records, membership list (1849-1872), reports, correspondence, and related papers.

Turnpenny and contains a collection of approximately 60 mostly loose 19th century engravings, lithographs, full-sized silhouettes, photographs, post cards, and other prints, primarily of Quaker and Philadelphia scenes. Overview William Walker Stephens (1824-1902) was the son of Hannah Walker and Stephen Stephens of Chester Valley, Pennsylvania.
