Overview The Lewis Benson Papers document the life and service of Lewis V. Benson (1906-1986), a Quaker and recorded minister of New York Yearly Meeting. His in-depth reading and study of the writings of 17th century Quakers gave him the venue to bring their message to a modern audience. He did this predominantly through his own writings and lectures.

Biddle family Papers

Overview This collection contains the papers of Philadelphia Quaker Owen Biddle (1737-1799), his son, Clement Biddle (1778-1856), and numerous descendants. Owen Biddle, a scientist and merchant, was a member of Philadelphia Monthly Meeting and helped in the establishment of Westtown School (1799). Owen Biddle's papers, 1772-1793, (Series 1) include correspondence, and journals, some of which relate to his Revolutionary War activities. Three of his letterbooks, 1778-1779, have been microfilmed. Abstract Katherine Devereux Blake was a suffragist and peace activist through the first half of the twentieth century. She was a member of the Ford Peace Expedition in 1915-1916, served on the national board of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and its international executive board, and was the chief speaker for the Disarmament Caravan, which toured 9,000 miles in 1931.

Abstract The Brandywine Peace Community was founded in April, 1972 by Delaware County (Pennsylvana.) and Chester County (Pennsylvania) citizens who advocated nonviolent direct action. The group was especially active against nuclear weapons manufactured by the General Electric Company, and later Lockheed Martin Marietta.. The Brandywine Peace Community was headquartered in Media, Pennsylvania. until 1983, then moved to Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.
