Lewis Benson papers

Overview The Lewis Benson Papers document the life and service of Lewis V. Benson (1906-1986), a Quaker and recorded minister of New York Yearly Meeting. His in-depth reading and study of the writings of 17th century Quakers gave him the venue to bring their message to a modern audience. He did this predominantly through his own writings and lectures.

"Massacre: A Play"

Scope and Content note This collection is comprised of the single volume manuscript of Charlotte Brate's play, "Massacre." The play describes a fictional event in the life of William Penn. It takes place in Germantown, Pa. in 1683 and describes the white settlers' fear of an Indian massacre and misunderstandings between the settlers and the Indians.

Joshua Cresson diary

Scope and Content note This collection is comprised of the single volume diary of Joshua Cresson. The volume provides an account of the Philadelphia Yellow Fever epidemic in 1793, and is largely religious in nature. Entries describe the illness, and the death and burial of many of Cresson’s community. The volume includes a note signed by Mary Cresson, which she addressed to her children with Joshua Cresson, so that they would understand the circumstances of their father's death.
