Overview
Ackworth School was founded in 1779 as a co-educational boarding school for Quaker children by Dr. John Fothergill and other Quakers. It is located in West Workshire, England. It was intended to be a board school for children whose parents were not rich. This collection is comprised of four volumes, one of which is a transcription of one of the other volumes. They all relate to the rules and regulations for the Ackworth School in England.

Scope and Content note
This collection is comprised of the single volume day book of John Gummere. It records attendance of his pupils, likely at Westtown School, and the back of the volume includes “an account of paper sold to the children." The front inside cover of the volume includes a number of signatures of Samuel Gummere. Samuel R. Gummere (1789-1866) was a teacher around the same time as John Gummere, in Burlington N.J., but it seems more likely that these signature belong to John Gummere’s son, Samuel James...
