Stout-Alston Family Papers

Overview The Stout and Alston families were Quaker merchant families of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware and Maryland. This collection of paper contains the personal and business correspondence, business and legal papers of Quaker merchants in Delaware, Philadelphia, and Maryland. The papers are chiefly of Jacob Stout (1774-1855), of Smyrna, Kent County, Delaware, who served as Governor of Delaware and Judge of Court of Appeals, and Jonathan Alston of Leipsic, Delaware.

Taylor Family papers

Overview This collection contains materials pertaining to the Taylor family. It contains correspondence, journals, legal documents, genealogical information, and research in the history of Quakerism. There are also many photographs in the collection, including carte de vistas and other nineteenth century photographic techniques. Other related families within the collection include the Savery, Scattergood, Richie, Hooton, and Roberts families.

The Northern Association of the City and County of Philadelphia for the Relief and Employment of Poor Women records

Overview This Hicksite Quaker women's charity was organized in 1844 and incorporated in 1856. Its mission was to provide employment in sewing for poor women. Lucretia Mott served as president until 1866. The Association went out of existence in 1926. The collection contains legal documents, financial records, membership list (1849-1872), reports, correspondence, and related papers.

Thomas family papers

Overview This collection is comprised of a single folder of the papers of the Thomas family, and includes a letter from Thomas Jones of Haverford Monthly Meeting to Chester Monthly Meeting, documents related to the execution of a will, and a document pertaining to the purchase of land in 1682 by John Thomas and Edward Jones.

Joseph C. Turnpenny scrapbook

Overview William Walker Stephens (1824-1902) was the son of Hannah Walker and Stephen Stephens of Chester Valley, Pennsylvania. Thomas Wistar journals

Overview Thomas Wistar's journal entries largely describe his work as an Indian Commissioner, including visits to Washington D.C. and various trips to Native American Reservations and Indian Agencies, including the Seneca Nation and the Wichita Indian Agency.
