William C. Allen diaries

Overview Diaries of William C. Allen's religious visits around the world from 1904 to 1937. Entries generally describe the customs, manners, language, transportation, food, and religious beliefs of each location Allen visited, as well as Quaker meetings he lead and religious and political leaders he met with in each place he visited. One volume of the collection does not record a religious visit, but is a record of Allen's thoughts on World War I, which he kept during 1917.

Peter Andrews journal

Overview Journal kept during Andrews's travels in England during the years 1755 and 1756. Entries describe his voyage from Philadelphia to Newcastle, including the weather, fellow passengers, and Quaker meetings held on board. Upon Andrews’s arrival in England, entries describe visits to fellow Quakers, Quaker meetings, and discussions of the state of the Society of Friends in England.

David Bacon journal

Entries describe Bacon’s journey to the Six Nations territory, and interactions between himself and the members of the Six Nations, as well as discussions between representatives from the United States and Six Nations governments concerning the treaty that was to determine the land rights of the Six Nations after the end of the Revolutionary War. Lucy Evans Chew diaries and papers

Overview Lucy Evans Chew graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1918. Shortly after her graduation, she married Samuel Chew, an English professor at Bryn Mawr. For the majority of their married life, the Chews remained in the area surrounding Bryn Mawr. The Lucy Evans Chew Collection is primarily comprised of 58 volumes of her diaries from the years from 1920 to 1968. The diaries include descriptions of her daily life, her association with the college, her travels, and her reflections on her life.

George Churchman diaries

Overview Churchman frequently traveled throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions, and thus many of his diary entries describe his travels to visit various meetings and Quaker families from Pennsylvania to as far north as Massachusetts. Entries describe meetings attended and families visited in the various towns and cities that Churchman traveled to, as well as family news, and marriages and deaths within the Quaker community.

Cooper-Richardson Family Papers

Overview The Cooper-Richardson collection contains correspondence and family memorabilia from the Cooper family (William Evans and Sarah Matlack Roberts Cooper). The Cooper family were Quakers of New Jersey, attending meetings in the Woodbury and Byberry areas. The collection includes correspondence and family memorabilia. Of particular interest is the journal of their granddaughter, Anna C. Richardson, written on her trip to California in 1904, and the writings of Sarah Cooper.

Jean Scobie Davis papers

William Dillwyn diary

Overview William Dillwyn was a Philadelphia Quaker abolitionist who was tutored under Anthony Benezet. Entries describe Dillwyn's travels from his home in Burlington, New Jersey, to Charleston, South Carolina, including lists of things to pack, the voyage, and the weather. Later entries describe Dillwyn's time in South Carolina, visits with Friends, business, and Quaker meetings.

Joseph Elkinton journal transcript

Overview Joseph Elkinton's journal entries describe his 1816 trip from Philadelphia to a Quaker missionary settlement and school called "Tunessassa," among the Seneca in upstate New York. His entries describe the preparation for the trip and his travel from Philadelphia to Tunessassa. The location of the original journal is unknown.
