Francis Bacon diaries

Scope and Content note This collection is composed of the two original, handwritten diaries of Francis Bacon, kept during the years 1841-1843, and 1858-1862. Entries describe Bacon’s daily life, including descriptions of the weather, Quaker meetings he attended, business transactions, social calls with friends and family, and the births, deaths, and marriages within the Quaker community.

George Bacon diaries

Scope and Content note This collection is composed of seventeen, handwritten volumes of George Bacon's diaries from 1813-1829. All of Bacon's diaries were written in "the Gentleman's Annual Pocket Remembrancer," which, in addition to Bacon's daily entries, includes an almanac, lists of members of the U.S. government, and a list of the Army and Navy for each year. Abstract Florence Bascom (1862-1945) was a noted American geologist, specializing in petrography. She attended the University of Wisconsin, receiving her BA degree in 1882 and her MA degree in 1884, and was the first woman to be granted a PhD from Johns Hopkins University in 1893. From 1895 to 1928, Bascom taught at Bryn Mawr College, where she established the Geology Department. Overview Joel Bean (1835-1914) and his wife, Hannah Elliott Bean (1830-1909), were prominent Quaker ministers in Iowa Yearly Meeting in the mid-nineteenth century when Quaker settlements were expanding in Iowa. Joel Bean was born in Alton, New Hampshire, in 1825, the son of John and Elizabeth Hill Bean, and educated at Friends Boarding School in Providence, Rhode Island.
