Scope and Content note This collection is comprised of a single photostatic copy of a manuscript book of meetings, compiled about 1765 by an anonymous author, listing the Quaker Meetings in the Yearly Meetings of New England, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and North Carolina. according to a note on the back of the first page of the photostatic copy, the original manuscript was located at the Moses Brown School in Providence, R.I. as of 1932, and that it had previously belonged to a woman named Mary Olney. Overview The Association for the Care of Colored Orphans, also known as “The Shelter,” was founded in Philadelphia by Quaker women in 1822 to care for black orphans, both boys and girls, within a nurturing, home-like environment.
