Historical note

Eighth Dimension (8D) is the community service organization of Haverford College. It was founded in 1978 by students, staff, and faculty to integrate experiential learning into the College’s curriculum. Deriving from a belief in the importance of public service and the heritage of Quaker activism, the name refers to the fact that the founders considered service as equal to the other “seven dimensions” of the College’s curriculum. Eighth Dimension is largely student-run, and works to engage students with the Philadelphia area beyond Haverford’s campus.
