Biographical Note
Winslow Homer (1836-1910) was an American artist. Although he is best known today for his landscape and seascape paintings, Homer began his career as a commercial illustrator. He worked extensively for Harper's Weekly and Ballou's Pictorial among other periodicals. In the 1860s, Homer moved away from illustration as his painting career took off.
