The collection is one volume of Newbold Hough Trotter's notes on ethics for a class at Haverford College. The notes are from a 1843 course in ethics by Daniel B. Smith. Biographical Note
Newbold Hough Trotter was born January 24th, 1827, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He entered Haverford College in 1841, and left in 1844. During his life he was a clerk, hardware merchant, and an artist. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Philadelphia Society of Artists. He was also a member of the Germantown Home Guards and fought at Antietam. His artwork was featured in the Centennial Exhibit in 1876, and animals tended to be the subjects of his work. He married Annie M. Dawson on October 10, 1855. He had two children: Joseph Trotter and Ann Hough. He died February 21st, 1898, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
