Scope and Contents

This scrapbook contains various materials related to Francis M. Stifler’s student life and general on-campus happenings throughout his time at Haverford (1921-1925). Collected materials include: a contacts page with names, addresses, and notes from various classmates, dating between 1921 and 1925; official college forms and correspondences, including several of Francis’s report cards, library rules, and a letter sent from President W.W. Comfort to parents of college students; materials related to Haverford sporting contests, including tickets, programs, and schedules; invitations and programs from a number of on-campus events, including debate competitions and cultural performances; invitations and programs from off-campus events, including the Annual Banquet of the Baptist Students at the University of Pennsylvania; newspaper clippings related to sporting events and other on-campus happenings, including reports on the accidental death of a Haverford student and a fire that struck the Haverford barn; photographs of Haverford buildings (Barclay, Chase, Roberts, Union, Founders), Haverford students, and members of Francis’s family; materials related to the events of several Haverford clubs, including the Rhinies, the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), and the Cap and Bells Club.

Biographical Note

Francis M. Stifler (1884-1947) was born to James Madison Stifler and Lucy H. Burnely in Roselle, New Jersey, on March 11th, 1903. He entered Haverford in 1921, and graduated in 1925. Upon graduating he took up residence in Evanston, Illinois.

Stifler scrapbook contains materials related to Francis's student life and general on-campus happenings during his tenure at the college. Among the collected materials are official college forms and corresponces; tickets, programs, and invitations from various on-campus events and sporting contests; photographs of Haverford buildings and Haverford students; and materials related to the operations of several Haverford clubs, including the Rhinies, the Young Men's Christian Association, and the Cap and Bells Club.
