Biographical / Historical

Amawalk Preparative Meeting was reportedly established in 1774 as a part of Purchase Monthly Meeting, having been previously allowed as a meeting for worship. It was set off to Chappaqua Monthly Meeting on its establishment in 1785, and became part of Amawalk Monthly Meeting on its establishment in 1792. Amawalk Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) was laid down in 1886, being the only preparative meeting in the monthly meeting. Amawalk Preparative Meeting (Orthodox) changed its name to Yorktown Preparative Meeting in 1882 and was laid down in 1902.
