Biographical / Historical
Sadsbury Monthly Meeting was established by Chester [Concord] Quarterly Meeting out of New Garden Monthly Meeting in 1737. Its opening session was held in Twelfth Month 1737/1738. In 1758, the monthly meeting was transferred to Western Quarterly Meeting; and in 1800, it became part of Caln Quarterly Meeting. At the time of the Hicksite Separation, two branches of this monthly meeting emerged.
Sadsbury Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) held its sessions in Simmonstown from 1831 to 1881; it returned to Christiana in 1881. The meeting was discontinued in 1907, and its members were attached to Bradford Monthly Meeting. The Hicksite monthly meeting, which reunited with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (Orthodox) in 1955, was the forerunner of the current Sadsbury Monthly Meeting.
