Abstract

This collection consists of the papers of the Laurie and Robbins families. Included are the copy books of Abigail and Jane Laurie, in which are their own poetry and works by various authors. Also included are fragments of the marriage certificate of Thomas Laurie and the will of Jacob Laurie. Various unsigned letters addressed to Hannah L. Robbins and an undated arithmetic worksheet are included as well.

Biographical / Historical

Thomas Laurie was a Quaker minister. Born in 1763, he was the son of James and Mary Laurie. In 1788 he married Ann Satterthwaite. Of their children, three daughters were Abigail, Jane, and Hanah. Thomas Laurie resided in New Jersey until his death in 1815. His daughter Hannah married Nathaniel Robbins and was an elder at Pilesgrove Monthly Meeting, New Jersey, until her death in 1882.
