Overview Elizabeth A.W. (Betty) Furnas was an active member of the Society of Friends who served as a member of the Board of Pendle Hill and was a member of the Women's Problems Group of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and its sucessor, Philadelphia Quaker Women. The collection includes minutes and correspondence, particularly of the latter, as well as published and unpublished writings and other material.
Overview Mary Hopkins (b. 2928), Quaker social worker, lecturer, and feminist, wrote and spoke on the issue of women in the Quaker faith and community. Much of her research involved ancient religions and the ways that modern women can incorporate these ideas into their spiritual life. Hopkins gave lectures and slide shows to many groups. Scope and Content note This collection consists of Epistles from England, Ireland, and the United States. Some are printed and some are handwritten. The printed Epistles are sometimes reprinted in other cities. Each Epistle is usually signed by one member of the meeting, the Clerk.
