Astronomy

The collection consists of four distinct series, which contain documents pertaining to Haverford professor Louis Green's activity in academia. These include materials related to his research, consisting of his 1937 PhD. dissertation from Princeton University, his Solar and Stellar Pulsations book manuscript, calculations, and lab journals; student assignments and examinations; lecture notes; and materials related to Haverford College policies.

The collection consists of Samuel J. Gummere's mathematics lectures, his notes on astronomy and a minor expenses cash book.

The collection contains calculations of the eclipse of the sun for May 1854 created by Robert Bowne Haines in 1844 as part of his coursework at Haverford School (now Haverford College).

This collection contains a note written by Mary Hoxie Jones in 1985 where she reflects on her experience seeing Halley's comet as a six year old. This note was written around a year before the next passing of Halley's Comet in 1986.

Small 17th century manuscript of prophecy, astronomy, and astrology.

The papers of two 19th century Smith family members, Seth Smith and Edward Smith, the former a teacher and astronomer, the latter a medical doctor. Seth Smith was likely a Quaker.

This collection, dating from 1905 to 1975, consists of astronomy images taken or collected by Swarthmore College Astronomy Department students and professors. Most of the images are on glassplates, but there are also some paper photographs. Images depict the college, eclipses, constellations, comets, and more.
