Abstract This collection primarily includes letters written by Maria Fox to her parents in Philadelphia while she was a student at Wilmington Boarding School. Also included are two letters from Maria's sister, Sarah Ann. The correspondence gives an account of the daily experiences of a student at Wilmington Boarding School. One letter briefly mentions a talk given at the school by the Quaker minister, Emmor Kimber.
Overview Theodore Friend was President of Swarthmore College from 1973 to 1982. He is a teacher, historian, and novelist. His books include Indonesian Destinies (Harvard University Press, 2003) and Between Two Empires: The Ordeal of the Philippines (Yale University Press, 1965). The first is the minutes of the Friends' Reading Room Association, from 1835 - 1842, from the organization of the association, until its resolution. The first volume includes list of attendees at the Friends Summer School of Religious History held at Haverford College, 1900 & 1904. The second volume includes the list of attendees at the Friends’ Summer School of Religious History, Bryn Mawr, 1907, and Haverford, 1910-1912. The records include names, addresses, and religious affiliations of the attendees.
Overview Anna Gillingham (1878-1964) was a prominent Quaker educator and author. Scope and Content note This collection is comprised of the single volume day book of John Gummere. It records attendance of his pupils, likely at Westtown School, and the back of the volume includes “an account of paper sold to the children." The front inside cover of the volume includes a number of signatures of Samuel Gummere. Samuel R.
