Scope and Content note This collection is comprised of the single volume day book of John Gummere. It records attendance of his pupils, likely at Westtown School, and the back of the volume includes “an account of paper sold to the children." The front inside cover of the volume includes a number of signatures of Samuel Gummere. Samuel R. Gummere (1789-1866) was a teacher around the same time as John Gummere, in Burlington N.J., but it seems more likely that these signature belong to John Gummere’s son, Samuel...
